Refilling Ink Cartridges
Many consumers opt to have their ink cartridges refilled or purchase remanufactured cartridges from third parties to save money over buying brand name ink cartridges.
Refilling ink cartridges is seen as a better use of resources, and since the only purchase involves ink, it is much cheaper. In fact, a whole industry has grown up around this idea.
Several qualities and types of refilling ink cartridges exist, some safe and successful, others can ruin the printer and produce a much lower quality print. Options available to consumers include taking empty cartridges to "refillers" or "remanufacturers" who pump in new ink, and buying store-branded ink.
Consumers should beware, however. Some ink cartridges may be sold as "new and compatible" but are in reality used and refilled by companies that buy used cartridges.
As with any other product, the consumer should know the company
from which they wish to purchase ink supplies or cartridges
.
